The Great Perfection, or Dzogchen, as it is known in Tibetan, is the most ancient and direct path to liberation found in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. These teachings were first taught in Tibet over twelve hundred years ago by the great Indian saints Padmasambhava and Vimalamitra, and the Tibetan translator Berotsana. The lineages of Padmasambhava and Vimalamitra were eventually compiled into one collection by Longchenpa, who added his own commentaries on Dzogchen practice. This compilation came to be known as the Four-fold Heart Essence,Nyingtik Yabshi. Within this body of literature, the teachings of Padmasambhava are called the Heart Essence of the Dakinis, the Khandro Nyingtik. These profound and secret teachings are considered the most complete source of material concerning the practice of the Great Perfection. They are the very heart of the Dzogchen tradition.

A series of texts containing these powerful teachings is now being translated under the direction of the Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and with the assistance of some of the most eminent masters of the Dzogchen lineage. The empowerments and reading transmissions for the Khandro Nyingtik were given by Kyabjé Trulshik Rinpoche and Rabjam Rinpoche at Sechen Monastery in Nepal. Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, son of Tulku Urgyen, has provided a detailed commentary on the contents of the Khandro Nyingtik in conjunction with the translation. Finally, this project is being carried out with the blessings of Chatral Rinpoche Sangye Dorje, a living buddha and the most senior lama in the Dzogchen lineage.
